Mens Homes of Hope

The Goal Our goal at Homes of Hope is to rebuild lives, not just houses.  Men providing affordable labor is an asset to the housing ministry, but the real benefit is the opportunity to take a life and allow God to rebuild it through us!  Men come here broken and without hope.  Through showing love, teaching job skills and biblical based discipleship training, these men receive the necessary ingredients to have a new foundation to build on.  Our ultimate goal in this part of our ministry is to produce men who are able to succeed in any walk of life. The Process There are 3 levels of job training and mentoring happening continually at Homes of Hope. The entry level takes men from the Miracle Hill Rescue Mission (in Greenville, SC) who are enrolled in the mission’s OVERCOMERS program, or other similar Christ-centered programs for men overcoming addictions, and utilizes them for the labor on the manufactured homes which are rehabbed for very-low income persons. The men are taught basic carpentry, plumbing and electrical skills. They are required to participate in a daily Bible study devotional and are exposed to a workplace that is Christ centered and operated on biblical principals. Their supervision is provided by other men who have graduated our programs and are now full time Homes of Hope employees. These mentors understand what the new men are going through because they’ve gone through it themselves. All of these supervisor/mentors are well versed in job training techniques and several of them have become ordained ministers in addition.  Work is often stopped on the spur of the moment to deal with a question or problem one of the men might have.  Often times you'll find the men in a circle praying or simply sharing and listening to each other or their mentor. Remembering our goal of rebuilding lives, not just homes, keeps our focus where it should be. The next level of job training and mentoring comes after the men from the entry level graduate the OVERCOMERS program, or similar program. At this point men who desire to continue their training are offered (if openings are available) a position in Homes of Hope’s INTERN PROGRAM. The Intern Program continues the process that was started at the entry level, only with more intense teaching, a one-year commitment, and job training on regular site-built housing as opposed to manufactured housing. The men are housing, clothed and fed at Samaritan Village, a transitional housing development owned by Homes of Hope. The third level is for men who have graduated the Intern Program, giving them opportunities to become full fledged paid employees of Homes of Hope, in our division called HOPE CONTRACTORS. Hope Contractors is our division which partners with the SC State Housing Finance and Development Authority to receive grants on behalf of low-income homeowners in S.C., providing home repairs for families unable to afford to pay. Our men are now in full “giving back” mode as they are now helping others who need help, and they are now also in the “mentoring” role themselves, taking the new men under their wings and helping them too.
